LET ME BE BLUNT – Latest Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester Newsletter
Date Posted: Wednesday, November 26th, 2025Dear Friend,
The Senate spent much of this week debating the SAVE America Act. Don’t be fooled by the name. This is about voter suppression, plain and simple.
This legislation would effectively purge the voter rolls and make it harder for some Americans to vote. It requires voters to show proof of citizenship — not just your driver’s license, but a passport or birth certificate. In Delaware, over 440,000 married women have birth certificates that don’t match their legal names. Over 481,000 Delawareans don’t have a passport. If you don’t have either, you will have to jump over complicated and costly hurdles just to participate in our democracy. All this begs the question: What is the SAVE America Act “saving” us from? Our country already has the safest and most secure elections in the world.
We have a choice before us. We must decide whether we’ll allow our partisan divides to pull us back to the past, or if we’re willing to stand together and protect the bedrock of our democracy: the right to vote. I know which one I’m choosing. CLICK HERE to watch me urge my colleagues to do the same on the Senate floor.
Supporting the Delaware River Basin
The Delaware River Basin is essential to the health and wealth of our region, and critical for our beautiful natural resources. It supplies drinking water to 13 million people and supports a $25 million water-based economy, generating 600,000 regional jobs and $10 billion in annual wages.
That’s why I was proud to reintroduce the Delaware River Basin Conservation Reauthorization Act. Passing this legislation would be a win-win for Delaware and our neighboring states. CLICK HERE to read more.
Working with Local Governments
Every year, the Delaware League of Local Governments (DLLG) brings municipal leaders from all over Delaware to the Capitol to meet with our federal delegation. I always enjoy our discussions on a range of important issues. This year’s topics included energy costs, coastal resiliency, transportation, and affordable housing.
Something to Say
Last weekend, I joined The Resurrection Center Church (TRC) in Wilmington for their Sunday morning service celebrating Women’s History Month. I was proud to speak on their theme, “Using Your Voice for Excellence.” That’s because every one of us has something to say, especially in this challenging moment.
This week’s Constituent Corner honors New Castle County Councilman Penrose Hollins. Councilman Hollins was recently awarded the Order of the First State by Governor Matt Meyer, our state’s highest civilian honor. Throughout a trailblazing career spanning more than three decades, Councilman Hollins has been an outspoken advocate for his constituents, especially on affordable housing.
On a personal note, I’m so grateful for Councilman Hollins’ friendship (especially with my dad, Ted Blunt). My team was proud to be in attendance as he officially received this major honor. Congratulations, Councilman!
Answer the Call to Serve: Consider our Service Academies
On Thursday, April 2nd, Senator Chris Coons, Congresswoman Sarah McBride, and I will host our delegation’s 2026 Service Academy Night at Del Tech in Dover. We’re inviting students, parents, and educators to come meet representatives from the service academies and ROTC programs to learn more about the application process and answer the call to serve. CLICK HERE to sign up for this year’s event.
